Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women’s Studies is considered one of the leading specialized centers in women’s issues and gender studies. It works to support scientific research, raise community awareness, and contribute to shaping policies related to women’s empowerment and the achievement of justice and equality, in alignment with national directions and sustainable development priorities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women’s Studies was inaugurated under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal on the 6th of Jumada al-Awwal 1434 AH, الموافق to March 18, 2013, marking a pivotal milestone that underscores the importance of the institutional role of women in the paths of development and modernization.
The establishment of the Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women’s Studies stemmed from a deep understanding of the importance of integrating women alongside men in the comprehensive development process, as a fundamental pillar of societal progress and equal opportunity. The Center serves as a scientific and institutional framework concerned with women’s issues and contributes to strengthening their active participation across various sectors, particularly in academia and the local community. The Center was established pursuant to University Board of Trustees Resolution No. (1/2011) issued on January 3, 2011.
The Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women’s Studies was inaugurated under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal on the 6th of Jumada al-Awwal 1434 AH, corresponding to March 18, 2013, reflecting the national significance of the Center’s role and its mission in supporting Jordanian women’s issues.
The Center operates according to a scientific methodology grounded in research findings and academic studies, with the aim of empowering women to fulfill their natural role as active partners in development. It also seeks to expand opportunities available to women across various fields and at all levels, contributing to changing prevailing negative perceptions and stereotypes about Jordanian women, and promoting the values of equality, justice, and equal opportunity.
The Center also strives to produce specialized knowledge, build capacities, implement training and awareness programs and activities, and strengthen partnerships with academic, national, and international institutions, in ways that serve Jordanian women’s issues and support their active participation in public life and decision-making.

 

 Vision 

  • Contribute to the creation of a society characterized by increased variety, democracy, and respect for human rights, in which women have equal chances and paths to advancement in all aspects of life.
  • We are looking for scientific leadership in social research and women's studies in Jordan.
 

 Mission 

  • Conduct scientific studies and research.
  • Provide consulting services.
  • Provide training programs that help to provide the appropriate conditions for the promotion of Jordanian women's capabilities and prepare women leaders.
  • Provide an appropriate scientific atmosphere and then activate scientific research and eating Jordanian society's issues and problems, especially those related to women's access to the most appropriate solutions, and an investment specialist cadre of faculty and industry social policy members, evaluating and communicating with planners and decision-makers to contribute to the leadership of the overall development at the national level.

 Objectives 

  • Assist decision-makers in developing plans and strategies for women.
  • The achievement of scientific prestige for women at the local and international levels.
  • The exchange of advice and expertise with universities and research centers based on the Women's Studies subject of interest.
  • Help Jordanian legislators in the drafting of laws and regulations keep pace with developments in terms of the status of women and their contribution to public affairs.
  • The formulation of a national strategy for the advancement of women.
  • Strengthening the intellectual contributions of women in the resolution of national, regional, and international issues.
  • Contribute to the development of a more positive national speech about women's issues.

The Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women’s Studies at Yarmouk University is an academic and research center dedicated to women’s empowerment. It conducts studies and training programs, supports national policies, and promotes women’s participation through local and international partnerships.
