Her Highness Princess Basma Bint Talal, Chairperson of the Jordanian National Committee for Women's Affairs, directed the establishment of the Princess Basma Center for Jordanian Women's Studies at the University of Yarmouk in 2011 with the objectives of enhancing women's participation in a variety of fields, enhancing their intellectual contributions to the resolution of national, regional, and international issues, and developing a national strategy for the advancement of women.
We are honored to be a supportive party in the process of enhancing the role of Jordanian women at all political, economic, social, and psychological levels by energizing the role of the center's departments to accomplish the strategic goals of the center. This is based on the significance of women's roles in society and the need to involve them in various fields at the local and international levels. The center's first section educates and advises Jordanian women on relevant roles and obligations; the second section gathers data and information about Jordanian women at all levels; the third section engages with local institutions and civil society organizations to promote women's roles; and the fourth section conducts studies and research involving Jordanian women. Decision-makers will utilize the findings to carry out their plans to reintegrate women into all social positions in a way that ensures their status and local and global presence.
The Princess Basma Center's mission extends beyond traditional teaching and research activities to include community-level gender issues and gender equality, as well as the participation of women in local, national, and worldwide politics, business, and social issues. Building relationships with various institutions and organizations that support the role of women in many sectors at the local, national, and worldwide levels can begin at the center on both a local and global scale. The center demonstrates its role by conducting qualitative and quantitative studies on various issues affecting women, distributing data, information, and leaflets in various fields, and shaping women's personalities through mentoring and training for leadership positions in various fields, among other activities.
And contributing to their fulfillment as a strong, self-fulfilling person, taking responsibility for their decisions, and developing their talents.
The Center adopts a participatory methodology with all organizations working on women's issues at the local and international levels, based on research and scientific studies, and works for women's empowerment. It also promotes women's status at the local and regional levels, their integration into the overall development process, the creation of a positive social culture, and a supportive national and international environment for their role.
The Princess Basma Center for Women's Studies at Yarmouk University seeks to:
- Providing an environment supportive of women's political empowerment and enhancing their active participation in public life at the local and international levels.
- To promote an environment supportive of women's participation in economic life and to ensure equal economic opportunities.
- Combating discrimination and gender-based violence, achieving social justice, and empowering women socially.
- Establish a network of women entrepreneurs in all areas, build a public database on women's affairs, and launch initiatives and partnerships in the women's sector at the local and international levels.
- Encourage and sponsor the production of audio-visual media on certain women's issues and conduct specialized studies on their active role in society.
- Activate the relevant departments to perform their roles efficiently and professionally by training, guiding, and collecting data, information, statistics, as well as conducting studies and research on Jordanian women.
